This Savoury Umami Tofu recipe, with it’s fusion of tamari, nutritional yeast and avocado oil bursts with flavour and promises to make tofu the star of your meal.

Ingredients
Makes 2 cups
- One 400g block of firm tofu, unopened
- 2 tablespoons tamari OR soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil OR olive oil OR ghee

Directions
- Place the block of unopened tofu (still in its package) in the freezer for at least 24 hours.
- Defrost the tofu at room temperature until soft and squishy, about 3 hours.
- Open the package and drain the tofu over the sink, squeezing and pressing with your hands to remove excess liquid.
- Over a bowl and with your hands, crumble the tofu into small bite-size pieces
- Toss the crumbled tofu with the tamari, nutritional yeast, salt and pepper.
- In a frying pan over medium heat, warm the oil. Add the tofu and cook until golden brown, stirring regularly, about 5 minutes.
- Remove forth heat, and cool.
- Store in an airtight container. It can be stored in the fright for up to 1 week.
