These are my top Amazon finds that make eating healthy on a budget waayyy easier. It’s all about planning and reducing waste.
When I was a student, I had to figure out how to reduce my spendings. But ladies and gentlemen, keep in mind that I do and always have LOVED food.
Consequently, food was always my biggest expense. (Like, by FAR.)
So here are my Amazon must haves that have really helped me save money with food. These are the two things that I focus on:
- Meal-prepping: it helped me reduce the amount of small snacks I purchased throughout the day (which amounted to quite some $$).
- Freshness: how to keep the food I buy fresher for longer.
This blog post is all about my Amazon essentials that make eating healthy on a budget easier!
EATING HEALTHY ON A BUDGET - AMAZON ESSENTIALS
Meal Prep Containers
Let’s start with the basics.
You NEED to start meal prepping. BELIEVE ME you will save so much money AND you WILL EAT HEALTHY. (The caps are not a mistake: I need you to get this into your head).
Stop sleeping on this.
Does it take time? Yes: about half a day. BUT, will it save you time during the week? Yes: about twice the amount of time it takes you to meal prep.
So here are my favourite containers I’ve PERSONALLY BOUGHT that helped me when I was trying to eat healthy on a budget.
1. Meal Prep Plastic Containers
These meal prep plastic containers are the first thing I bought. They lasted for a pretty long time (though treat them with care.)
I had so little money at this point, I needed the biggest bang for my buck.
These 50-piece container box got me exactly what I needed. 32oz, microwave & dishwasher safe, and BPA-free.
2. Meal Prep Glass Containers
If you have a little more money, I would recommend that you first invest in glass containers.
I feel like food remains fresh for longer in glass containers. And the locking clasps also made me less paranoid that it would just pop open in my bag.
And also when it comes to cleaning, I feel like the glass is just easier to keep clean.
I got 2 orders of these containers… just because I was used to having a 50-piece set before 😂 They are definitely heavier though.
3. Meal Prep Overnight Oats Containers
Overnight oats were my BREAD AND BUTTER when I was eating healthy on a budget.
Such an easy way to pack protein and therefore very filling. Plus, it’s easier to eat wherever because it doesn’t need heating 😄
I had the smaller size for a long time. However, I then got the bigger size because I wanted to add more fruit (because fruit is volume eating for not many extra calories).

4. Meal Prep Bowls
So I never got these ones, but I thought I would add them here for those who prefer the circular meal prep containers.
I didn’t get them just because I feel that rectangular ones take up less space in the fridge (for the same volume of food they fit).
5. Meal Prep Bag & Lunch Box
There came a point when I was meal-prepping breakfast, lunch and dinner. AND I was leaving home before breakfast and coming back after dinner. (Lots of studying going on at this time + a part-time job.)
Granted, they are not too stylish. But honestly, there’s no such thing as an actual good-looking lunch box.
Also, make sure to pack an ice pack in there.
6. Meal Prep Cookbook
Let me start by saying that this cookbook isn’t for men only. 😂
I lived off of this book for a long time. The recipes are really good, and not too complicated either. Some of them require quite a few more ingredients (so not totally budget-efficient), but there are always ways to simplify them and make then more budget-friendly.
Honestly, a really really good purchase which I still use today.
7. Water Bottle
Let me tell youuuuuu. Have a water bottle around you.
So many thirst cues are interpreted as hunger cues. So keep yourself hydrated and you will see how much better you’ll feel (and how much random snacking you’re stop doing).
Plus, you’ll be too busy going to the bathroom to get something to eat 😂.
I’ve been loyal to the Hydraflow for the past 5 years. The size is big and it’s spill-proof.
8. Meal Planner
This was the NUMBER ONE thing that helped me in terms of eating healthy and saving money. I cannot emphasize this enough.
PLAN. YOUR. MEALS. Go do the groceries with a list and a plan in mind. You won’t be missing anything during the week, and it’ll be a load off your mind as well.
Plus, making a plan will allow you to prioritize healthy meals.
Shameless plug for my meal planner.

10. Fridge Organizer
When I started letting go of strict meal prepping, I just prepped ingredients. So basically chopping, washing, seasoning, etc.
These containers just kept all this fresher for longer. And when it comes to snacking, you can always opt for the healthier option because everything is already ready to eat.
Also, having everything prepared really helped cut how much food you waste. Everything is prepared and visual, so you can see what you have too much of or not enough of.
Accessibility is key, ladies and gentlemen.
I had both of these: though I purchased them quite a bit later.
11. Bullet Blender
OK HERE’S THE DEAL.
If you make a vegetable- and/or fruit-packed smoothies, and add protein… it will keep you SO FULL for a very long time (for not many calories or much $).
And it’s such a cheap way of eating healthy… especially if you’re buying frozen.
Hope this helped! I promise you, this is a good investment.
This blog post was all about the best things you can get when you are eating healthy on a budget!
